چکیده

The introduction of the ultrafast imaging sequences has renewed the interest in development of RF coils. The theoretical frame of the SNR of MRI coils is a challenge because it requires a deep mathematical background to master the associated concepts. Here, a simpler method is proposed based on Legendre polynomials. This approximation method, together with a quasi-static approach, was used to derive a signal-to-noise ratio expression for a circular-shaped coil. Legendre polynomials were used instead of a weighting function to simplify the vector potential of the power loss, and an SNR formula was then derived. The simplified version of the SNR formula of a circular coil was compared with the weighting function-derived SNR expression using the quasi-static approach. SNR-vs.-depth plots were computed to theoretically compare both SNR formulas. Results showed a strong agreement between SNR values for the circular-shaped coil. This approach can be used as a tool to derive SNR expressions for more complex geometries. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Concepts Magn Reson Part A 28A: 422–429, 2006

Non-uniformity of Clinical Head, Head and Neck, and Body Coils in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

Introduction Signal intensity uniformity in a magnetic resonance (MR) image indicates how well the MR imaging (MRI) system represents an object. One of the major sources of image non-uniformity in high-field MRI scanners is inhomogeneity of radio-frequency coil. The aim of this study was to investigate non-uniformity in head, head and neck, and body coils and compare the obtained results to det...

Numerical Determination of SNR using an Anatomic Pixel Rat Brain Model

Introduction. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is an accepted measure of the coil performance and at the same time SNR is an accepted standard for measurement of image quality in MRI, as the quality of the reconstructed image depends strongly on the SNR of the acquired MR signals. Analytical expressions based on the Maxwell equations, can be derived for the simplest cases of surface coils [1], b...

Assessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences

Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of  non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in  quantitative  studies  in  MRI  imaging.  Part  of  this  non-homogeneity  demonstrates  the  characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being  imaged...

Another‎ Method for Defuzzification Based On Characterization of Fuzzy ‎Numbers

Here we consider approaches to the ranking of fuzzy numbers based upon the idea of associating with a fuzzy number a scalar value, its signal/noise ratios, where the signal and the noise are defined as the middle-point and the spread of each $gamma$-cut of a fuzzy number, respectively. We use the value of a as the weight of the signal/noise ratio of each $gamma$-cut of a fuzzy number to calcula...

I-45: Advance MRI Sequences in Pelvic Endometriosis

Background: To assess MRI in diagnosing endometriotic lesions, emphasizing T2*weighted imaging efficacy. Materials and Methods: This prospective study of 48 females (22-38 years, average 29.6) clinically suspected of endometriosis from September 2009 to April 2012. MRI was performed with a 1.5 T imager (Siemens) with a body array coil. T1, T2 and T2* weighted (2D-FLASH) sequences were obtained ...
